Tamoya Udon & Tempura Singapore
"Udon or Ban Mian?" I asked S while we surveyed the bustling food court at Plaza Singapura.
We strolled through the food court, trying to decide between the two options. Both of us were in the mood for some comforting, soupy fare, and we had narrowed it down to these two choices. However, my dilemma deepened when I noticed that the ban mian stall didn't have any Maggie Mee (instant noodles). Just when I was about to make up my mind, S came to the rescue with a suggestion: "How about Udon?"
Our eyes were drawn to Tamoya Udon, renowned for its fresh, authentic udon, which is hand-pulled daily. Founded by a Sanuki Udon Champion, this eatery was famous for its commitment to crafting top-quality udon dishes.
Despite prominently featuring Udon and Tempura at the storefront, Tamoya's menu offered a diverse range of dishes to choose from. It covered the three primary Asian carbohydrate favorites: Udon, Ramen, and Don. What set Tamoya apart were its unique flavors, including truffle-infused creations and hearty curry dishes. And the best part? It was considered an affordable dining option, even in the bustling town area.
One standout item on the menu was the Black Garlic Tonkatsu Udon. This dish was popular for good reason. The udon's comforting soup delivered a robust flavor profile, leaving a lasting impression on my palate. In fact, it was so flavorful that I found myself needing to sip some water to balance the intensity. The portion size was just right, and what I loved most was the chance to savor bites of udon alongside the crispy Tonkatsu, creating a delightful culinary experience.
Tamoya Udon had undoubtedly become one of my go-to dining spots whenever I found myself contemplating what to eat at Plaza Singapura. But for now, after a long day and plenty of walking at the Night Festival, we were finally headed home.
