Cuturi Gallery
“Was this here before?”
“Don’t know leh.”
“But it’s a gallery leh!”
Entering Cuturi Gallery felt like entering a space out of space. From the crowded and loud murals across Aliwal, we were then transported into a calm neutral gallery space.
It was quiet, and we could barely hear the humming of the air conditioning on the hot Saturday afternoon. It was a quiet place.
We were honored to catch Casey Tan’s work there, where his seemingly bizarre art with a touch of pop, whimsical, and surrealism gets to you in an indescribable way. There’s a certain style behind his portraits, giving the characters a hidden layer of life in his own style. The posture, expression, and the fine lines only made you look deeper within.
There are three exhibition spaces on the gallery’s left and right. And with the remaining levels of the conservation shophouse used for multifunctional art space and resident studio. I was surprised to know that there’s actually an accessible rooftop for artists and collectors.
It’s probably a part of the scene that I’d never seen for now, but maybe? Who knows? Maybe after writing and covering art spaces, festivals, galleries, and events, I’d finally be deemed worthy to step into this other part of the art world!
